The two questions vets ask first
Is the limp sudden or gradual? Sudden usually points to an injury, a torn cruciate, a fracture, or something stuck in the paw. Gradual over weeks or months usually points to joint disease, hip issues, or age related wear.
Is the limp worse when getting up, or worse after exercise? Stiffness when getting up that eases after a few minutes of walking is a classic joint pattern. Worse after exercise, especially in young large breed dogs, needs a proper vet look.
